Weathering the Storm:
How to Keep Your Photoshoot on Track, Rain or Shine

It’s the day of your photoshoot: you’ve rested well, you’re looking great and feeling confident - until you open the curtains and see that the weather is threatening to ruin your special day!

But don’t worry - photographers who shoot outdoors quickly learn to roll with the punches when it comes to weather.

I thought we had the perfect conditions for Keira’s pre-School Formal photo shoot: the sun was shining, the temperature was warm and the sky was blue with a few light clouds.  Then, it hit me, as soon as I stepped out of my car – the wind!  I knew I didn’t want to let the strong gusts of wind ruin her perfect day.  So, I took a little extra time to find locations that allowed the wind to blow her hair back, creating a beautiful look.

During Valentina’s School Formal photoshoot, it rained almost the entire time, but we didn’t let that put a damper on her spirits. We found a few sheltered spots around the venue that provided the perfect backdrop, ensuring stunning photos despite the weather.

Indoor shoots can also be a fantastic alternative when the weather doesn’t cooperate, offering the bonus of controlled lighting, props, and unique settings.

While rescheduling a portrait shoot is usually no big deal, rescheduling something like a school formal or a wedding is another story! Don’t let bad weather spoil your special day - a skilled photographer will always find a way to make sure your photos turn out amazing, no matter what Mother Nature has in store.
